#13: Made it to Sydney (again)!

Sydney is the place where we spent most of our time on our first world trip, but actually saw the least. Due to the pandemic, we didn’t get to see much more than the direct neighborhood around our hotel. Ever since we had to abort our travels in 2020, we had a dream to get back to Sydney. At the beginning of 2022, we didn’t even expect it to happen so soon but… Australia reopened its borders for foreign travelers! Perfect timing for us and we felt the urge to get back and continue where we stopped two years ago. Sydney, here we come (again)!

A sunny day at Bondi Beach

Sunday, 17 April 2022

Even though we almost spent two weeks in Sydney in 2020, we haven’t seen much of the city. Due to the starting pandemic, we stayed most of the time in and nearby our hotel room. Now we finally got to visit Bondi Beach! It is a warm and sunny Easter Day so the rest of the city also decides to go to the beach and the atmosphere is ecstatic. There are many amazing coastal walks around Bondi so the crowds start to spread soon and we enjoy watching the surfers, the waves and the views over the ocean.

Easter trip by ferry to Manly

Monday, 18 April

Another beautiful day in Sydney, we got so lucky with the weather! The weather predictions before we arrived weren’t that great but it is warm and sunny and the recent rain storms are nowhere to be seen.

Just like - what it feels like - the rest of Sydney, we have the idea to take a ferry ride to Manly. Manly is known for its beautiful beaches, steady high waves and coastal walks. Sounds similar to Bondi, but the vibe is a bit different. There are less cars and more stylish barista cafes and bakeries around. We love the coastal walk and the views from the hills over the ocean.

From the ferry back to Sydney Circular Quay, we have the most amazing views on the skyline and harbor. We even saw an enormous cruise ship entering Sydney’s docks. Later, we found out that this was the first time in two years that a cruise ship entered the Sydney. In normal times, 350 cruise ships a year arrive in Sydney! Now we understand the excitement and crowds, quite a special moment for a city that has been in lockdown for so long.

Shopping and strolling in Surray Hills

Tuesday, 19 April

Rain was forecasted but again: sunshine and 23 degrees. Such perfect weather for another stroll through the city. Today we discover the neighbourhood of Surray Hills, it houses many nice brunch places, barista cafes, boutiques and galleries. It is so interesting to realize we left the northern hemisphere in spring and now arrived in Australia in autumn. We see beautiful autumn colours everywhere. We spend the evening doing some research on campgrounds on the east coast, since tomorrow we will pick up our campervan!
